Island Seniors Lend Kayaks to Ocean Tribe Paddlers
Participants in a recent full moon paddle, hosted by Ocean Tribe Paddlers (OTP), enjoyed paddling kayaks generously provided by Island Seniors, Inc. After receiving more requests for loaner vessels than could be accommodated, Walter Cheatham, who leads OTP events, reached out to the Sanibel Center 4 Life for help. Island Seniors, Inc., the non-profit group that supports Center 4 Life programs through fundraising and other avenues, agreed to lend the paddling club its fleet of kayaks for the evening.
“We are so grateful to Island Seniors for their willingness to help,” said Cheatham. “It’s so nice to live and work in a place where people and groups support each other, and thanks to Island Seniors our paddlers were able to enjoy a great evening on the water,” he added. Cheatham said that one highlight of the paddle was observing a beautiful display of bioluminescence near Bowman’s Beach.
“Island Seniors, Inc. provides health, fitness, fun and education for its members,” said board member Shirley Schulz. “We often work with various on and off-island entities to this end; sharing and tapping expertise, attending events and sometimes coordinating parking, equipment and space needs. This collaboration enables all of us to achieve our goals.”
