Ocean Tribe Paddlers to Screen “Rediscovering North America: A Journey from the Gulf of Mexico to the Arctic Ocean”

  • Sanibel Sea School (map)

On Tuesday, March 19th, we will be screening the documentary “Rediscovering North America: A Journey from the Gulf of Mexico to the Arctic Ocean”.

The Rediscovering North America expedition was roughly 5,300 miles, paddled by canoe from the Gulf of Mexico to the Arctic Ocean. The six-man expedition took a total of 245 days to complete. Starting in January, the men left the Gulf of Mexico - paddling against the current up the Mississippi River, through winter conditions for 85 days, reaching the Twin Cities in April.

After almost 2,200 miles, the men made it to downstream, continuing more than 3,000 miles over the next three months. 17 resupplies later, a destination was reached: the Arctic Ocean, and the small town of Kugluktuk in the Nunavut Territory. All for the sake of adventure.
